Physicians at Almaden Pediatrics specialize in the care of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults into their early 20s. We provide comprehensive well care (check-ups) with an emphasis on preventive care, health maintenance, and child safety.
In addition, we provide care in the diagnosis and management of pediatric illnesses. We work closely with the sub-specialists in the community in the event your child requires more specialized care.

The Flu Vaccine
For 2023-2024 we will offer the flu shot and Flumist (nasal spray). Visit the CDC website for detailed information on the flu shot. The CDC web site is also an excellent resource for general information about Influenza vaccination and the 2023-24 Flu season.
Who can get the flu vaccine from us? How much does it cost?
We are happy to provide the flu vaccine to all of our patients and their parents, grandparents and caretakers, under the age of 65 years (64 yrs or younger).
For all of our patients and for non-patients with PPO insurance, we will bill your insurance.
For non-patients with HMO insurance, or patients without insurance, the cash price is $45 for the flu shot.

Booking an Appointment
IMPORTANT NOTE: In order to book a flu shot appointment you/your child must fulfill the following two requirements:
Your child must have an up to date physical (a physical within the last 12 months) in order to be eligible for a flu clinic appointment. If your child is overdue for a physical, an appointment must be made and your child will receive their flu shot at that appointment.
All outstanding bills for the entire family must be either paid in full or on a payment plan agreed upon by the practice.
When the above has been fulfilled move to the following steps:
1. You may call at anytime (408-268-1122) to request an appointment slot. Please be prepared to provide the following information:
Date and time frame requested
The number of family members you would like to book
2. If calling after business hours you may leave a message with your first and last name and with the above information.
Failure to leave the above information will result in a delay in booking your slot and you may not get the slot of your choice.
3. We cannot accept appointment requests through the MyChart patient portal.
4. If your child is scheduled for a Well Visit (Check-up) with us before December 1st, he/she does not need to attend a flu clinic. A flu shot will be administered at the time of their Well Visit.
How the Flu Vaccine Clinics Work
1. You must call in advance to schedule a specific day and time slot (for example, October 13th 2-4pm).
2. You may arrive anytime within that time block to receive your flu vaccine.
NOTE: We do not accept walk-ins for flu vaccine clinics.
3. Drive-Thru Flu Clinics! The weekend clinics will be drive thru. We are happy to administer the shot while your child and you stay in the comfort of your own car. In the event that a child needs to be more secured, we will have a designated area in the parking lot to administer the shot outside of your car.

If your insurance has changed since your last visit, please contact the office to give us updated info. If your insurance has NOT changed, you do not need to do anything.

After Hours Urgent Care
Our office is open Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and on Saturday mornings. We can take care of most urgent needs in our office, including, but not limited to, sprains, fractures, suturing, concussions, etc. during our business hours, so always call our office first.
For medical care when our office is not open, there are a number of urgent care facilities in the area. We also offer online visits for certain conditions. To start an online visit, go to our homepage and click Start an Online visit.

Behavior/ADHD
Evaluation & Diagnosis
Behavioral, emotional, and educational issues are typically complex with many contributing factors. Identifying all factors involved is often a complicated process and therefore we feel it is best to have your child evaluated by a specialist in that area.
Options for evaluation include:
- Upon your request, your school district can complete an evaluation.
- You can call your insurance for a list of providers who are on your plan.
- You may call our office to obtain information on providers we recommend.
Autism Screening
Autism Screening Form
This questionnaire is used to help identify children who are at risk for autism. Please print, complete, and bring to your child’s 18 month and 2 year visits. You may also use this form for any child under the age of 5 years.
Ear Piercing
Dr. Pete is happy to pierce ears for children of all ages. Be assured that your child’s ears are being pierced in a safe, clean, and nurturing environment.
Dr. Pete uses the Blomdahl piercing system and earrings. The Blomdahl earrings are top of the line and are made from a 100% surgical plastic and are hypoallergenic. Dr. Pete pierces all ears with the fake diamond stud with screw on backing.

The charge for ear piercing is $100. Single ear piercing is $60. Cash or Credit Card is accepted.
Emergency Services
Save yourself the time and hassle of sitting in the hospital’s emergency department. We are able to care for most minor emergencies in the office. If your child has suffered a minor emergency, you may call our office first and we will arrange for him/her to be seen as soon as possible for evaluation and treatment.
Suturing
Save yourself from time and hassle of sitting in an ER. We are able to suture most of the more common lacerations in the office on an emergent basis. If your child should suffer a laceration that needs to be closed, call our office immediately and we will arrange with you the appropriate time to close the wound in our office.
Fractures
We are able to manage most fractures without a trip to the emergency department. Upon notifying our office, we will arrange for you to be seen in the office quickly for an evaluation. We will then coordinate x-rays and a referral to an orthopedist if necessary.
Other Emergencies
For other emergency situations such as head trauma, falls, burns, etc., we encourage you to call our office first as we are often able to care for these situation in the office and you can save yourself time and aggravation by avoiding the emergency department. In instances when the injury is more serious or extensive, our staff can facilitate the process of getting your child the appropriate care from a specialist or the hospital’s emergency department.

IMPORTANT NOTE: To be eligible for the vaccine your child must meet the following criteria:
Age between 6 months and 11yrs. We do not have the COVID vaccine for 12yrs and up. See FAQ below.

FAQ’s
What vaccine manufacturer do you have?
While all COVID vaccine options are safe and effective. We have chosen the Moderna vaccine to have in stock. There are no plans to have other manufacturers in stock.
How many doses does my child need to be fully vaccinated?
For children who have not received any COVID vaccines, they should receive two doses at least 1 month apart.
For children who have received one dose from any manufacturer they need one dose of the new vaccine.
My child has received a vaccine from a manufacturer other than Moderna, can they get the Moderna vaccine?
Yes.
Do you have the vaccine for 12yrs and older?
No. And we do not have plans to have that vaccine in stock.
Do the providers at Almaden Pediatrics recommend the vaccine?
Yes, Dr. Pete, Dr. Michelle, Dr. Ali and Jennifer all strongly recommend that all children who are eligible for the vaccine get vaccinated.
Are you doing COVID-19 vaccines in Morgan Hill?
YES! Please see above for more information.
Can my child get other vaccines with the COVID-19 vaccine?
Yes! Your child can receive the COVID vaccine with any other vaccine.
Important note: While it is safe to receive the COVID vaccine and flu vaccine simultaneously, due to logistics we will not be administering the COVID vaccine on flu shot clinic days.
Can my child get the COVID-19 vaccine at his/her check up or other appointment?
Yes!
My child recently tested positive for COVID, when can she/he get the COVID vaccine?
Your child can receive the COVID vaccine as soon as their symptoms have resolved. However, it may not be necessary to get the vaccine for 2-3 months after an infection.
There is just so much online about the COVID vaccine, I don’t know who or what to believe?
When deciding what information to believe, you should follow the old mantra, “Consider the source.” So while you may find differing viewpoints and misinformation on the internet, if you stick to established, reputable medical institutions, including, but not limited to: CDC,
Mayo Clinic, Stanford Children’s, Harvard University, even WebMD, you will see the same consistent message regarding COVID vaccine safety and efficacy.
My child has a medical condition that makes me concerned about them receiving the vaccine. Will the providers give my child a medical exemption?
The providers will only give medical exemptions for FDA approved contraindications to the COVID vaccine. This is a very small list if instances.
